INPASSA! Polish Origins

Zenon and Magda Znamirowski will organize actual or virtual tours of your ancestral villages in Poland. Based in Warsaw, they specialize in the area to the east (Lublin, Chelm) and southeast (Rzeszow). Zenon helped Nancy Maciolek Blake with her research in Poland (see article 4).

Federation of East European Family History Societies

The Federation of East European Family History Societies (FEEFHS) was organized in 1992 as an umbrella organization that promotes family research in eastern and central Europe without any ethnic, religious, or social distinctions. Be sure to look at their member webpages list for links to specific member organizations.

Polish Roots

presents research materials and services such as SurnameSearch™, which allows users to register surnames they are researching. Here you can subscribe to GenDobry!, the newsletter written by William "Fred" Hoffman, and check articles devoted to history, heraldry, immigration, maps, and more.

RootsPoland

is based in Warsaw and offers many services. At Tad's companion website, you can post a photo or an image of a document and ask for help in translating or understanding the image.

Polish Ancestry services offered by Magdalena Pospieszna is based in Gorzow Wielkopolsk in the area that was part of Germany prior to 1945. Magdalena offers to help people with either German or Polish ancestry. Some of the towns and cities in this part of Poland include: Chojna, Choszczno, Debno, Stargard, Pyrzyce, Szczcecin, Mysliborz, Kostrzyn, Gorzow, Miedzychod, Miedzyrzecz, Poznan, Skwierzyna, Swiebodzin, Sulechow, Krosno, and Zielona Gora.

Many cities and towns had German names at one time. There are several websites that can give you the German name along with the Polish name:

Poland Border Surnames email list is a surname-based mail list for those researching genealogy in the former historical borders of Poland including Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Russia, the Balkans, West Prussia and East Prussia.

Genealogia Polska Rafala Degiela
Interesting website that teaches you how to start searching for roots, but it is available only in Polish. Many interesting articles, for instance about the creation of Polish surnames. Includes links to Polish Archives

Polish Poland offers genealogical services as well as tours, language lessons, and agro-tourism accomodations. They are located in the western part of the country, and specialize in the following provinces: Lubuskie, Wielkopolskie, Dolnoslaskie and Zachodniopomorskie

Find Friends and Family

This free service for people seeking friends and family that came from or live in Poland has been on line since 1995. It has helped many people reestablish contact with loved ones and has helped many others build their family trees. In some cases the final resting places of lost relatives have been found.
